Swimming Canada announced the nomination of six swimmers to its 2021 Olympic team on Friday, along with a shift in both the dates and format of the upcoming Olympic Trials. The Trials will now move to May 24-28, and an invitational meet will follow June 21-23, with Olympic nominations to be made after both events. A scaled-down Shamrock Invite takes on a different format this year, as the timed finals meet will see a total of six sessions over three days. The men swam morning and afternoon sessions yesterday, then wrapped up with a morning session today, and then women will swim this afternoon and tomorrow. U.S. Open qualifier Kaia Li of Menlo Park, Calif. has announced her verbal commitment* to Harvard University as a member of the Crimson’s Class of 2026. Florida State and Auburn split a dual meet at the James E. Martin Aquatic Center Wednesday , with the Seminoles men beating Auburn for the first time in 19 all-time meetings. It’s also FSU’s first win over a ranked opponent since 2017. Florida State won 13 of 16 events, weathering two early wins by Auburn in the distance events. The victorious 200 medley relay that started the meet accounted for six individual wins in addition to the relay triumph. T2 Aquatics in Naples, Florida played host this weekend at the 2021 T2 Naples Open. One of the stars of the meet was 15-year-old Edie Simecek who was the only swimmer to represent Flatiron Swimming and made the most of her weekend, picking up 6 top-3 finishes including 4 victories in the 100 back, 100 fly, 200 fly, and 100 free. Simecek’s long course victories came at 1:07.22 in the back, 1:02.99 in the 100 fly, 2:19.85 in the 200, and a 59.28 in the 100 free. In their first home dual meet of the season, the Auburn Tigers split with Florida State, winning over the women’s team and falling to the Seminole men. On the men’s side, it was Florida State’s first time beating Auburn in program history. WOMEN’S MEET The Auburn women handled the visiting FSU women, claiming the lion’s share of events today. Socal Aquatics Association’s Tona Zinn has verbally committed to Northwestern University for fall 2022. Zinn is a junior at Laguna Hills High School, and he’s ranked #15 on our 2022 recruiting rankings . Zinn won the 2018 Swammy Award for the top 13-14 boy in the United States . TYR Pro Swim Series: What We Learned From the First Prelims/Finals Meet of the Year Usually a prelims/finals meet in mid-January would be another ho-hum competition in the leadup to the Olympic Trials. Led by three wins from senior Courtney Harnish on Senior Day, Georgia swept South Carolina in a pair of meets on Saturday . The No. 3 women claimed a 184-116 win over the Gamecocks, while the No. 2 men eased to a 179.5-103.5 victory. The final day of competition will feature the 200 IM, 200 back and 100 free, with timed final heats in the 1500 free swimming during tonight’s finals session. It’s the fourth and final day of the 2021 Pro Swim Series kick-off, with prelims of the 200 IM, 100 free and 200 back slated for this morning. TIDE Swimming’s Samantha Tadder led prelims this morning in the women’s 200 IM, going 2:18.09. Breaststroke standouts Emily Escobedo and Miranda Tucker both joined her under 2:19, going 2:18.77 and 2:18.91, respectively. There was no Zoe Dixon , the 400 IM champion Friday night, as she’s focused on the 200 back today. After a 53.3 100m back last night that was the fastest time in both Richmond and San Antonio, Justin Ress will tackle the 100 free today.

Bella Cratsenberg of Bellingham, WA has announced her decision to continue her academic and athletic career at New Mexico State University beginning in the fall of 2021. She has been a club swimmer at Bellingham Bay Swim Team for eight years, and she is in her senior year at Bellingham High School. As previously reported , Swimming Canada will be running a reduced capacity Olympic Trials with 20 swimmers for each event swimming in a timed finals format. The Trials will run from April 7-11, 2021 in Toronto. Following a preliminary list of Canada’s top 30 swimmers in each event , invites have now been sent to the top 20 swimmers in each event. As per the invite, swimmers will have until January 15 th to accept their invitation to the meet. Beisel is primarily a middle-distance freestyler, 200 backstroker, and 400 IMer. In spite of a distinct event similarity to Olympic medalist Elizabeth Beisel, there’s no known close relation between the two.
