It was a fitting end to the meet for Kieran Smith , who picks up his third win in as many days with a new personal best time of 1:59.38 in the 200 IM. That showing lowers his previous PB of 1:59.56, set way back at the 2017 World Juniors, and ranks him 13th in the world this season. Known for his freestyle prowess, the 20-year-old distanced himself from the field on back, splitting 29.97, before closing strong with splits of 34.83 and 28.92 on breast and free. The top breast leg in the field went to Will Licon , who moved up from sixth at the 100 to second at the 150 in 33.85, ultima ...

Kathleen Baker made her move on the backstroke leg of the women’s 200 IM, giving her over a second buffer on Madisyn Cox that she was able to maintain the rest of the way. Looking at the splits, the two were very close on all the other strokes, but Baker’s 32.49 back leg made all the difference. The 23-year-old Baker finished in a time of 2:10.30, moving past Cox to become the second-fastest swimmer in the world this year, with only Australian Kaylee McKeown (2:08.23) ahead of her. It’s also Baker’s third-fastest performance ever, having been 2:08.32 in the summer of 2018 and 2:08.75 ...

Claire Curzan won her second event of the meet tonight, finishing first in the 200 butterfly with a 1:53.75. That time for Curzan was just a little bit over her previous best of 1:53.59 from earlier this year. Curzan came in as the only sub-2:00 as fellow national teamer Charlotte Hook was a 2:00.94 for second and Taylor Bloom followed with a 2:02.94. That swim for Hook was more than 7 seconds slower than her entry time. Curzan’s TAC teammate Brooke Zettel swam to a top-3 finish in back to back events on the final night of the meet, winning the 200 backstroke in a 2:00.11 and placing ...

2021 TYR Pro Swim Series: Kathleen Baker Dazzles in 200 IM; Kieran Smith Grabs Third Win So much is made of Kathleen Baker’s prowess in the backstroke events, and rightfully so. After all, Baker is a former world-record holder in the 100 backstroke and has an impressive collection of international hardware from the stroke. That status, though, sometimes causes her talent in the individual medley to go overlooked. Closing out her weekend at the TYR Pro Swim Series in San Antonio, Baker put together a superb performance in the 200 individual medley, as she prevailed in 2:10.30. That ti ...

The final night from the San Antonio Pro Swim should be another exciting one — though there will be a few sparsely populated heats. World record holder Regan Smith has scratched out of the women’s 200 back, as has Emma Weyant , leaving just six swimmers in that event tonight. Phoebe Bacon and Isabelle Stadden come in as the top two seeds. Will Grant has also dropped out of the men’s 200 back, meaning just four will contest that race, though it remains intriguing with Ryan Murphy , Shaine Casas and Austin Katz in the field. Other key matchups to watch for tonight include Abbey Weitzei ...

Team Scores Nebraska traveled to Iowa City on Saturday for a dual meet against the Iowa Hawkeyes. Wisconsin was also set to participate in the meet, however, like Michigan State, they had COVID issues among the roster, and had to withdraw from the meet for safety purposes. That left the Iowa men’s team without an opponent, so they competed yesterday as an intrasquad meet. Nebraska’s Autumn Haebig was triple event winner, taking the 100, 200, and 500 frees for the Huskers. Haebig posted a 50.11 in the 100 free, getting her hand on the wall first by over half a second.
