Bob Bowman Shows Social Media Can Be a Beneficial Resource Social media certainly has its ups and downs. On occasion, it will highlight events and accomplishments that bring a smile. Other times, it can infuriate and show the dark side of individuals. A key is accepting that social media has a two-sided nature, and it is up to the person surfing along to decide what he/she wants to digest and what he/she prefers to ignore. From the positive side, Arizona State coach Bob Bowman posted a pair of comments over the past few days that are worth sharing for the perspective and assistance t ...

Gold Medalist to Capitol Insurrection: Tracing the Rise and Fall of Klete Keller There’s no sugarcoating the effect on the world of swimming that seeing Klete Keller’s among protestors storming the United States Capitol on Jan. 6 has had, just as there’s no diminishing the chilling effect of five lives lost that day or that the insurrection has had on American democracy. It’s made for a convenient hook in headlines of the coverage – of CEOs, elected officials and yes, an Olympic swimmer, joining an unruly mob of right-wing protestors trying to stop the certification of an election lo ...

Steffi Beisel , a senior at Archbishop Mitty High School and the famed Santa Clara Swim Club in northern California, has verbally committed to the University of Arizona. Beisel is primarily a middle-distance freestyler, 200 backstroker, and 400 IMer. In spite of a distinct event similarity to Olympic medalist Elizabeth Beisel, there’s no known close relation between the two. At the 2019 Central Coast Section Championships as a sophomore, she won the B-final in the 500 free with a 4:57.35. While that time was 6 seconds faster than she swam as a freshman, as a freshman she placed 5th. ...

The NCAA Championships is one of the most intense competitions a swimmer might compete in, and falls just short of the U.S. Olympic Trials in terms of the cut-throat attitudes of the athletes and coaches vying for titles and a spot in history. First place in a relay at the NCAA Championships will earn a team 40 points, while eighth place is worth 22 points–2 points more than an individual victory. Needless to say, there is a lot of pressure to perform well on relays. The stage was set for the final of the men’s 200 yard medley relay at the Men’s 2007 NCAA Championships. 32 men on 8 t ...

Coleman Stewart of North Carolina State and Paige Madden of Virginia have been named the ACC Swimmers of the Year for the truncated 2019-2020 season. The awards mirrored those handed out for Most Valuable Swimmer at the ACC Championship meets. Stewart, a senior, ended the season as the country’s top swimmer in the 100 backstroke thanks to his ACC Record of 44.04 done at the ACC Championship meet. That would have made him the top seed at the NCAA Division I Championship meet that was canceled. He won ACC titles in the 100 back and 200 back and was a member of the winning 200 medley an ...

The coronavirus pandemic had caused the world to go into a frenzy the last few weeks. Athletic events were being cancelled left and right. Facilities were closing down. Sports, what was once a form of escape during times of panic like these, was suddenly completely wiped away from our lives in a matter of what felt like the blink of an eye. With roughly four months still to go to the Olympic Games, the coronavirus pandemic could not have come at a worse time. Athletes everywhere were struggling to find places to train. Gym equipment became nearly impossible to get their hands on. Whi ...

It’s time for Olympic athletes to stand down, relax those diet rules and dial down the training. The 2020 Tokyo Games won’t be opening in July as scheduled because of the coronavirus pandemic. San Marino Olympic wrestler Myles Amine, a senior at the University of Michigan, had a feeling the postponement was coming before it became official. Thursday, all Americans got the same message about their beloved sports, boiled down to two words: Game Over! For women’s varsity water polo players across the U.S., this was perhaps inevitable news.
