Thomas Bach Announces Bid For Second Term of IOC Presidency
July 17, 2020 — IOC President, Thomas Bach, has announced that he will seek to be re-elected next year. The 66-year-old has held the position since 2013 after being elected for an 8-year term. The presidential election is due to take place in Athens next June. The announcement came during the IOC’s 136th Session which they held today. During the conference it was also announced that the schedule for aquatics at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics next year will remain identical to the original plan . March 16, 2020 — The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has put out a statement expressing concerns over the Rodchenkov Anti-Doping Act (RADA), which has recently passed committee in the United States Senate. The Rodchenkov Act is a bill written in 2019 that would criminalize international doping fraud conspiracies. In essence, the bill aims to impose criminal penalties on dopers and those found to have knowingly assisted in the facilitation of doping activities. April 10, 2020 — USA Swimming has not yet decided on how it will handle qualifying cuts for the rescheduled 2021 Olympic Trials, Chief Operating Officer Mike Unger told SwimSwam. Swimmers who already qualified based on the 2020 cuts will remain so, while a new qualifying period will open when the sport returns to action.
