The Ohio State University has received a new verbal commitment for the fall of 2022 from Junior National qualifier Everett Oehler of Rockville, Md. He will join Southlake, Texas native Mason Edmund as a member of the Buckeyes’ Class of 2026. Regarding his commitment, he said: “I chose The Ohio State University for the diverse academic opportunities as well as the incredible opportunities the university will offer me as an athlete. Michigan’s Olivia Carter and Indiana’s Jack Franzman have been named as Big Ten swimmers of the week. It was the opening weekend for the Big Ten Conference in the swimming pool as the Michigan women and Indiana men look to get their championships back after getting defeated last year in 2020. The Penn State men's swimming & diving team fell to the 18th-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes, 163.5 - 134.5, Saturday at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion in Columbus, Ohio. This was the team's first official meet of the 2020-21 season following two inter-squad competitions in November.

Big Ten school Rutgers will be redshirting many of its swimmers and divers for the 2020-2021 season. Head coach Jon Maccoll has confirmed to SwimSwam that Rutgers’ roster is “fluid” at the moment. Covid-19 protocols appear to be the main reason for the Scarlet Knights’ current dilemma. According to what Maccoll has told us so far, they currently have 3 swimmers and 3 divers on campus training, as they did throughout most of the fall semester. The Ohio State Swim Club, an age group club affiliated with the Big Ten college, is suspending its operations amid the coronavirus pandemic. Austin, Texas-native Malia Rausch has announced she plans to swim for The Ohio State University in the class of 2025. Rausch recently competed at the 2020 Texas UIL 6A State Swimming and Diving Meet, where she won the 500 free (4:48.06) and was runner-up in the 200 IM (2:02.21) at the conclusion of her junior year season at Lake Travis High School. She also led off the 8th-place 200 medley relay (26.69 backstroke) and the 6th-place 400 free relay (51.82). Teresa Ivan , a junior at Ardrey Kell High School and a member of the Aquatic Team of Mecklenburg in Charlotte, North Carolina, has announced her verbal commitment to swim for The Ohio State University in the fall of 2021. A sprint freestyler, Ivan’s career-best 50 yard freestyle time is .1 seconds off of the NCAA ‘B’ cut time and her career-best 50 LCM freestyle is .6 seconds off of the 2020 Olympic Trials cut time. The Ohio State University has collected two verbal commitments for the 2021-22 season and beyond from Hudson, Ohio native Mackenzie DeWitt and Teresa Ivan of Charlotte, N.C. Both swimmers will join Malia Rausch , Mairin O’Brien , and with the Buckeyes as a member of the class of 2025.

The Ohio State University has earned a new verbal commitment for the fall of 2021 from Austin, Texas freestyler Malia Rausch . She will join Mairin O’Brien , and with the Buckeyes as a member of the class of 2025. She told Rausch swims year-round with Austin Swim Club and owns two U.S. Open standards with three additional Junior National cuts. She finished 10th in both the 200 free and 500 free, as well as 11th in the mile, at Juniors West in December after earning a pair of best times at the Toyota U.S. Open. Luke Paxton , a junior at Badin High School in Hamilton, Ohio, has announced his verbal commitment to The Ohio State University for 2021-22. Paxton won the 200 free at the 2020 OHSAA Division 2 Swimming and Diving Championships in February, going 1:39.16 in the final after having notched a lifetime best of 1:38.60 in prelims. He swam fly (21.64) on the 3rd-place medley relay and led off the 5th-place 400 free relay with 45.77. (Paxton had been the top seed in the 100 fly but was DQd in prelims.) In club swimming, Paxton represents Powel Crosley Jr. YMCA Tigersharks.

There was uncertainty within the swimming community when Gregg Troy announced his retirement from head coach responsibilities from the University of Florida in the spring of 2018 as how the programs would go forward. Jack Herczeg took down the Class A Record in prelims of the 100 free. Herczeg, an Ohio State commit set it at a 44.62 and was just a hundredth slower to win the final. He also won the 200 free (1:40.29). His 1:40.12 in prelims was just a couple of tenths off the Class A Record.

For the first time since 2017, the Big Ten men’s swimming and diving champions were not wearing cream and crimson Saturday night. It was the 41st conference championship for Michigan.
Ohio State ultimately edged out IU for second. Michigan finished with 1,548 points, Ohio State scored 1,329 and IU had 1,321.5. Michigan also beat IU in 2016, the last time the Hoosiers didn't win the conference.
