Jan. 22, 2021 — A scaled-down Shamrock Invite takes on a different format this year, as the timed finals meet will see a total of six sessions over three days. The men swam morning and afternoon sessions yesterday, then wrapped up with a morning session today, and then women will swim this afternoon and tomorrow. Instead of the normal bevy of teams, this iteration of the annual invite featured only the hosts Notre Dame and Missouri State on the men’s side, with the Fighting Irish completing a clean sweep and winning 268-86. Abbey Weitzeil Describes the Mental Struggles of Getting Back in Shape
Jan. 20, 2021 — Abbey Weitzeil becomes the third American woman under 25 seconds this season, clocking 24.97 to sit second in the country behind only Gretchen Walsh (24.65). Weitzeil’s last long course 50 prior to this morning came in December of 2019, where she went 24.70 at a time trial in Minnesota. Margo Geer improved on her prelim swim by just over a tenth to claim second in 25.46, while Casey Fanz and Olivia Smoliga tied for third in 25.58. Kasia Wasick Breaks Own LCM 50 FR Polish Record (24.58) at PSS Des Moines
March 8, 2020 — The women’s events in Des Moines concluded with the 50 free finals, which featured an exciting battle between USA’s Simone Manuel and Poland’s Kasia Wasick . After breaking 25 seconds in prelims at 24.91, the 27-year-old Wasick blasted to a new national record at 24.58. Manuel touched in second at 24.68. Wasick’s lifetime best swim took down her 2019 best/national record of 24.73. She also owns the 100 free record (54.22) as well as 4 relay records.

Alexy Breaks 29-Year-Old Record, Borges Break's Killion's 34-Year-Old Record at NJ States
March 4, 2020 — Following their State Team Tournament, New Jersey swimmers competed in the 2020 Meet of Champions, which stands as the individual state championships. Cal commit Jack Alexy , a Delbarton junior, broke a 29-year-old Meet Record in the 50 free, hitting the wall in 20.08. That’s just a hundredth shy of a lifetime best and took down the former record of 20.27 set by Delran’s Jason Rosenbaum in 1991.

Jan. 17, 2021 — The UNC Asheville swimming and diving team picked up a 274.5-207.5 victory over Georgia Southern on Sunday afternoon. Over the course of the last two days, the Bulldogs won 14 of the 26 events. July 18, 2020 — 16-year-old Claire Curzan of the TAC Titans in Cary, North Carolina raced a 21.51 50 free SCY at her team’s intrasquad meet on Friday night, reported first by Swim Swam News . Curzan’s swim, if sanctioned, would count as a national age group record, breaking her own mark of 21.77 from Junior Nationals in December. This was Curzan’s first swim meet since Speedo Sectionals in March. 2020 W. NCAA Previews: Weitzeil Aiming for 2nd Sub-21 to Defend 50 Free Title
March 10, 2020 — Cal’s Abbey Weitzeil, the reigning NCAA Champion, made history this season as the first woman to break 21 in the 50 free. Weitzeil turned in a 20.90 at the Minnesota Invite, breaking the American and NCAA Record. At the 2020 Pac-12 Championships, Weitzeil took down the Pac-12 Meet Record in 21.03, but hyper-extended her arm on the finish, causing her to scratch the rest of the meet.

Miami Sophomore Cole Grasshans Breaks Pool Record with 19.7 50 on Day 2 of MACs
March 6, 2020 — Miami began to cut into the Missouri State lead in the next event, the 50 free, where they went 1-2. Sophomore Cole Grosshans won the race with an 19.82, touching first by a large margin of .57 seconds. Senior teammate Nick Ward won Silver with a 20.39. Grosshans was faster in prelims, swimming a 19.79 to break the SIU pool record. His prelims swim was also the 2nd fastest in MAC Championships history.

Feb. 28, 2020 — Cal’s Abbey Weitzeil got off to a fast start at the 2020 women’s Pac-12 Championships. In her first individual swim of the meet, Weitzeil took down her own Pac-12 Meet Record with a 21.09 in prelims of the 50 free. It was, at the time, the 4th fastest in history.
