Jan. 20, 2021— The annual Flanders Swimming Cup has transitioned into the Flanders Qualification Meet for this 2021 calendar year. Set for Antwerp, Belgium on Saturday, January 23rd, and Sunday, January 24th, this Flanders Qualification meet will serve as a FINA-sanctioned qualification meet for the postponed 2020 Olympic Games. The event is open for domestic swimmers able to train during the current coronavirus lockdown, as well as visiting foreign swimmers. March 14, 2020— The German Swimming Federation (DSV) confirmed yesterday that all DSV events will be cancelled. The DSV also recommends this procedure for events that are organized directly by the swim clubs on a regional and local level. Therefore the German swimmers, like many other athletes, have no possibility at the moment to qualify for the Olympic Games, the European Championships in Budapest and also the European Junior Championships. March 11, 2020— The annual Nordic Swimming Tour is set to kick-off this month, but there is already a disruption due to the worldwide coronavirus ( COVID-19 ) situation. The Nordic Tour typically consists of a trio of meets including Helsinki Swim Meet (Finland), the Bergen Swim Festival (Norway) and the Swim Open Stockholm (Sweden). Although the first top, the Helsinki Swim Meet scheduled for March 25th and 26th is slated to go on as planned, stop #2 in Bergen has been cancelled.

March 7, 2020— Germany’s Jacob Heidtmann and Marius Kusch , both training under the guidance of coach David Marsh in San Diego, raced inside the cut for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games in action at the TYR Pro Swim Series in Des Moines last night . For Heidtmann, a 4:12.40 victory over 400m medley, produced a provisional ticket to Tokyo with a bonus card in the mix: a second shot in the Olympic pool four years after he was disqualified at his first Games in Rio after finishing fifth fastest in heats.

March 6, 2020— German Olympian Jacob Heidtmann hit his qualifying time for Tokyo 2020 in a 200 free time trail at the 2020 Pro Swim Series in Des Moines. Heidtmann, who competes for Team Elite, posted a 1:46.87. He was within hundredths of his lifetime best 1:46.83 from the 2018 European Championships. That’s a little over a tenth under the German Olympic Qualifying Standard, which is set at a 1:47.02.
