Confirmed Tokyo 2020 (2021) US Olympian Ashley Twichell and National Age Group Record holder Claire Curzan led the highlights on the first night of racing at the TAC Titans Intrasquad Time Trial on Friday evening. The International Olympic Committee has confirmed that athletes already qualified “by name” for the 2020 Olympics will remain qualified for the postponed Games, NBC Sports’ Nick Zaccardi reported Saturday . Top seed Katie Ledecky , a Stanford postgrad, is out for the final day of competition. Ledecky, who won the 1500 free, 400 free, and 200 free here, has scratched the 800 free. At this meet, Ledecky swam her 4th fastest 200 free ever with a 1:54.59. She raced to a 3:59.66 in the 400 free and a 15:29.51 in the mile. Her mile time was the 5th fastest performance in history.

2020 US Olympian Ashley Twichell put up a solid 9:30.02 in the 1000 yard freestyle to open up the 2020 Cary Speedo Sectionals in North Carolina. Twichell, who has already solidified her spot on the US Olympic Team for this summer’s Games in Tokyo in the 10K open water swim, trains in Raleigh and finished ahead of 16-year-old rising star Charlotte Hook (9:42.51) of the TAC Titans.

2020 CARY SECTIONALS With several standout performances this morning in yards, tonight’s finals saw TAC Titans 15-year-old Claire Curzan post a 58.00 in the 100 fly in long course. Curzan has only been quicker once before this, a 57.87 that sits just off of Torri Huske’s 57.71 15-16 NAG record. This morning in yards, Curzan was 50.89, not far from her personal best of 50.35.

2020 CARY SECTIONALS Open water World Champion Ashley Twichell opted out of the Des Moines PSS this week, instead competing at Cary Sectionals as she represented the TAC Titans. On night 1, Twichell raced to a 9:30.02 victory in the 1000 free, her 3rd fastest performance since 2016. TAC Titans’ Charlotte Hook , a 16 year old, made a big drop behind her, taking 2nd in 9:42.51. That was a best by about 16 seconds. Teammate Brooke Zettel , also 16, broke 10:00 for the first time to take bronze in 9:53.85.

2020 PRO SWIM SERIES – DES MOINES The 2020 Pro Swim Series stop in Des Moines continues on Friday morning with prelims of the 200 free, 200 back, 400 IM, and 100 fly. There are a few notable Olympic and World names among the prelims scratches. One of them is Simone Manuel , who will opt out of the 100 fly. Manuel will still be swimming the 200 free. Hali Flickinger , who set a new PSS Record in the 200 fly on day 2, opted out of the 400 IM. Fellow U.S. Olympian Tom Shields has scratched out of his signature 100 fly to focus on the 200 free.
