Jan. 21, 2021— Spartans Aquatic Club and Gwinnett Aquatics kicked off the new year with a 14 and under meet in Georgia, where several rising age-group stars posted standout performances. 13-year-old Baylor Stanton posted a total of 8 victories while swimming best times in 7 events. Stanton began the weekend by winning the 200 freestyle by more than 10 seconds, finishing in a time of 1:46.04. This marked an almost 3 second drop off of his previous best time. In prior seasons, teams from across the country, such as the Sandpipers of Nevada, the Colorado Stars, and the Lakeside Swim Team in Kentucky, have made the trip to Georgia to compete, but the pandemic situation has added challenges to this meet, as it has to most daily life. Jan. 21, 2021— T2 Aquatics in Naples, Florida played host this weekend at the 2021 T2 Naples Open. One of the stars of the meet was 15-year-old Edie Simecek who was the only swimmer to represent Flatiron Swimming and made the most of her weekend, picking up 6 top-3 finishes including 4 victories in the 100 back, 100 fly, 200 fly, and 100 free. Simecek’s long course victories came at 1:07.22 in the back, 1:02.99 in the 100 fly, 2:19.85 in the 200, and a 59.28 in the 100 free. Jan. 19, 2021— The family of Kolby Ruff, an active high school and club swimmer from Smithville, Missouri is looking for assistance following a severe crash on Christmas Day that left Ruff critically injured. According to police reports, while driving eastbound on Missouri intrastate, Ruff’s vehicle traveled onto the right side of the road. When he attempted to correct his position, he collided with another car. Sept. 9, 2020— Jakob Mumper , a member of the swim teams at the Indiana Swim Club in Bloomington, Indiana and Bloomington North High School, was killed on Sunday in what police believe was a homicide-suicide. According to local authorities, 61-year old Jeff Mumper shot and killed his 54-year old white Greta, his 26-year old daughter Emma, and his 18-year old son Jakob on Sunday at their home in Bloomington.
