Jan. 19, 2021— Klete Keller “He apologized to me,” former USC and U.S. national team coach Mark Schubert told the New York Times . “He kept repeating, ‘You’ve done so much for me, and I let you down.’ He kept saying over and over, ‘I didn’t mean for any of this to happen.’” Keller has turned himself into authorities and is facing federal charges. Jan. 19, 2021— Olympic gold medalist Klete Keller has not spoken to the media since SwimSwam broke the news last week that he was inside the U.S. Capitol on January 6 . But according to the New York Times , he has spoken to former coaches and expressed remorse. Mark Schubert , who was Keller’s coach at USC, told the Times that he called his former swimmer after he was charged in U.S. District Court with three counts related to the Capital uprising. This year’s honors featured two swimming and diving athletes, Texas’ Alison Gibson and Kentucky’s Asia Seidt. Aug. 24, 2020— Longtime Hawaii Swim Club coach Scott Sherwood died on August 3 at the age of 48 in Waipahu, Hawaii. Sherwood worked at HSC in Oahu, coaching athletes to the Olympics, Nationals and NCAA scholarships while working full-time at Waipahu Intermediate School. A native of East Lansing, Mich., Sherwood produced multiple standout swimmers, including Olympian Christel Simms and Olympic Trials qualifier Brittany Beauchan.

July 13, 2020— Renowned Indiana high school swim coach David Dunlap died on July 11 at the age of 78. During his coaching career, Dunlap coached the boys team at South Bend Jackson High School from 1967 until 1975, when it merged with Riley High School. He continued on as the head coach at Riley until his retirement in 1995. His teams won state championships in 1978, 1986, and 1995; in addition, they finished in the runner-up position seven times: 1972, 1973, 1975, 1976, 1979, 1980, and 1983. His teams also earned a total of 22 sectional titles, and produced 23 individual and relay state champions. ...
