Claire Curzan won her second event of the meet tonight, finishing first in the 200 butterfly with a 1:53.75. That time for Curzan was just a little bit over her previous best of 1:53.59 from earlier this year. Curzan came in as the only sub-2:00 as fellow national teamer Charlotte Hook was a 2:00.94 for second and Taylor Bloom followed with a 2:02.94. That swim for Hook was more than 7 seconds slower than her entry time. Georgia Bates has opted to stay close to home for her college career, verbally committing to the University of Florida for the 2021-22 season. She’ll be reunited with her older sister, Talia Bates , who is a rising sophomore All-American for the Gators. She will join Ekaterina Nikonova , Olivia Peoples , Anna Auld , Mary Kate Kelley , Micayla Cronk , and Brooke Zettel in Gainesville as a member of the class of 2025.

The University of Florida has recently gained a big verbal commitment for the fall of 2021 from Ekaterina Nikonova of Novosibirsk, Russia. She will join Olivia Peoples , Anna Auld , Mary Kate Kelley , Micayla Cronk , Brooke Zettel , and Georgia Bates in Gainesville as a member of the class of 2025. Regarding her commitment, she said: Nikonova is a talented sprint freestyler who represents the Russian Swimming Federation internationally.

2020 US Olympian Ashley Twichell put up a solid 9:30.02 in the 1000 yard freestyle to open up the 2020 Cary Speedo Sectionals in North Carolina. Twichell, who has already solidified her spot on the US Olympic Team for this summer’s Games in Tokyo in the 10K open water swim, trains in Raleigh and finished ahead of 16-year-old rising star Charlotte Hook (9:42.51) of the TAC Titans.

2020 CARY SECTIONALS Open water World Champion Ashley Twichell opted out of the Des Moines PSS this week, instead competing at Cary Sectionals as she represented the TAC Titans. On night 1, Twichell raced to a 9:30.02 victory in the 1000 free, her 3rd fastest performance since 2016. TAC Titans’ Charlotte Hook , a 16 year old, made a big drop behind her, taking 2nd in 9:42.51. That was a best by about 16 seconds. Teammate Brooke Zettel , also 16, broke 10:00 for the first time to take bronze in 9:53.85.
