TYR Pro Swim Series: What We Learned From the First Prelims/Finals Meet of the Year Usually a prelims/finals meet in mid-January would be another ho-hum competition in the leadup to the Olympic Trials. But this past weekend’s Pro Swim Series in San Antonio and Richmond was a welcomed sight for swim fans due to the fact it was the first legitimate prelims/finals meet in a long-course venue since March 2020, a week before the COVID-19 pandemic took hold of the United States. USA Swimming held the U.S. Open across nine different sites in late November, but the meet was timed finals only ...

2021 TYR Pro Swim Series: Ryan Murphy Completes Backstroke Double; Isabelle Stadden Notches Strong 200 Back The way Ryan Murphy looked in his prime events over the weekend, it is clear the reigning Olympic champion in both backstroke events is ready to pursue repeats in Tokyo . One night after posting an excellent January performance in the 100 backstroke, Murphy claimed victory in the 200 back while racing at the San Antonio stop of the TYR Pro Swim Series. Competing in a field that featured only four swimmers, due to minimal entries and scratches, Murphy pushed himself to a winning ...

The final night from the San Antonio Pro Swim should be another exciting one — though there will be a few sparsely populated heats. World record holder Regan Smith has scratched out of the women’s 200 back, as has Emma Weyant , leaving just six swimmers in that event tonight. Phoebe Bacon and Isabelle Stadden come in as the top two seeds. Will Grant has also dropped out of the men’s 200 back, meaning just four will contest that race, though it remains intriguing with Ryan Murphy , Shaine Casas and Austin Katz in the field. Other key matchups to watch for tonight include Abbey Weitzei ...

The final night of the TYR Pro Series stop in Des Moines was very much a sneak preview of what is to come at the United States Olympic Trials in June, especially in the women’s 100 backstroke. One night after prevailing in the 200 backstroke, Regan Smith bested a strong field at half the distance with the sixth-fastest time in history. Smith led wire-to-wire in a field that also included former world-record holder Kathleen Baker and Olivia Smoliga , the world champion in the 50 backstroke.
